Deep excavation

Installation, mixed media, acrylic, ink on photo paper, rocks, 2022

Triptych, 800 x 91 cm each

Monumental landscape of 8 metres long offers a stratigraphique vision of the world: an imaginary geological cut. Two types of stacking happen simultaneously: transferring of darker colours to the lighter ones from the lower part to the top, and building up of the paint layer on the surface. Conservative hues of cadmium yellow, burnt sienna, titanium white overlap with intensive unexpected ochre. Massive uncarved rocks at the foot of the paper rolls are emblematic of the prima materia, the feminine, its primal puissance, untouched by chisel or any cutting instrument conventionally associated with the masculine. The distortions of scale, perspective and colour only add to the overall expressivity. Fluidity of acrylic and inks allows the artist to tap into her own psyche: this is a deep excavation into the unconscious, unrestrained thoughts, repressed memories.
