Deep excavation

Installation, mixed media, acrylic, ink on photo paper, rocks, 2022

Triptych, 800 x 91 cm each

The monumental landscape of 8 meters long offers a stratigraphic vision of the world: an imaginary geological cut. Two types of stacking happen simultaneously: transferring darker colors to lighter ones from the lower part to the top, and building up the paint layer on the surface. Conservative hues of cadmium yellow, burnt sienna, and titanium white overlap with intensive unexpected ochre. Massive uncarved rocks at the foot of the paper rolls are emblematic of the prima materia, the feminine, its primal puissance, untouched by chisel or any cutting instrument conventionally associated with the masculine. The distortions of scale, perspective, and color only add to the overall expressivity. The fluidity of acrylic and inks allows the artist to tap into her own psyche: this is a deep excavation into the unconscious, unrestrained thoughts, and repressed memories.
